In a Compound, two substances combine to form a third substance (that replaces the two original substances) that is chemically different from the two original substances.

In a Mixture, two substances are just mixed together (kind of like a salad), with each of the two original substances retaining its own chemical properties; and no third substance is formed.

The different substances are not chemically joined together, each substance in the mixture keeps its own properties different from the elements it contains each substance is easily separated from the mixture.
