The reaction that best describes the change of aniline into phenyl isocyanide is
C6H5NH2 + CHCl3 + KOH → C6H5NC + 3KCl + 3H2O
This is basically a characteristic reaction of the primary amines. from the above reaction, we can see that aniline on carbyl amine reaction gives phenyl iso-cyanide.
