    This statement is largely true.

A mineral is defined as a solid, inorganic naturally occurring substance with a distinct chemical formula and general structure. On the crust of the earth, almost all chemical elements found there are associated with at least one mineral.

Each mineral has its own distinct properties. Rarely does one find two minerals sharing the same properties.

Minerals vary in hardness, density, color, crystal form, crystal size, transparency and composition.

Some are magnetic e. g. magnetite, while others are radioactive such as uranophane.

Others such as gold are uncombined elements.
