    V2 = V1 x P1/P2 = 240mL x 800.0mmHg / 1200.0mmHg = 160 ml

    Boyle studied the relation between the volume and the pressure of the gas at constant temperature.

    Boyle's law states that: " At constant temperature, the volume of a given mass of gas is inversely proportional to its pressure"

    This means that:

    PV = constant

    This can also be written as:

    P1V1 = P2V2 where:

    P1 is the initial pressure = 800 mmHg

    V1 is the initial volume = 240 ml

    P2 is the final pressure = 1200 mmHg

    V2 is the final volume that we need to calculate

    Substitute with the givens in the above relation to get the value of the volume as follows:

    (800) (240) = (1200) (v2)

    192000 = 1200 (V2)

    V2 = 192000 / 1200

    V2 = 160 ml
