A sample of solid albr3 contaminated with solid kf is melted and electrolyzed. what is the resulting overall reaction? correct! 2al3 + (l) + 6br - (l) → 2al (s) + 3br2 (l) no reaction will occur 2k + (l) + 2br - (l) → 2k (s) + br2 (l) 2k + (l) + 2f - (l) → 2k (s) + f2 (g) 2al3 + (l) + 2f - (l) → 2al (s) + f2 (g)

    If you look at the substances, you could test by interchanging the metals and nonmetals of each other. With that being said, K will combine with Br, and Al will combine with F. So, the complete reaction would be:

    AlBr₃ (l) + KF (l) → AlF₃ (l) + KBr (l)

    They won't appear as ions because they are not in the aqueous state. Only strong electrolytes dissolved in water dissociate into ions.
