Protons are subatomic particles which are found in the nucleus of atoms. They are different from other particles called neutrons which are also found in the nucleus of many atoms. Each proton carries a positive charge + 1 while neutrons have no charge at all.
Protons have a relative mass of 1
The number of protons in an atom is known as the Atomic Number of that atom and sometimes is refferred to as "Z"
Sometimes, a proton may also be defined as the hydrogen ion H +
The number of protons in an element's atoms are largely responsible for the chemical properties of that element.
Examples
1. Calcium has 20 protons
2. Iron has 26 protons
3. Chlorine has 17 protons
