    A VLAN (virtual local area network) is a virtual interface, in which a physical port must belong to. By default, all ports on a network switch is configured to the interface VLAN 1.

    This SVI (switch virtual interface) can be more than one on a switch. when a trunk line is created between two switches or a vitual machine is created on a host, it means that there is a need to create links for this new collision domain. So a Vlan must be created on the switch for the virtual machines configured on the host server.
