    DS-1 known also as carrier T1 is part of the T carrier hierarchy and has 24 channels. It was created by AT&T in 1957 and implemented in 1960. DS means digital signal which implies that it was meant for digital signals communication and it was used to transmit voice signals in a long - hual pause code modulation transmission. there are signal levels or carriers in the T carrier hierarchy ranges from 64kbps (DS0) to 274Mbps (DS4).
