What is a software configuration audit?

The objective of the software configuration audit is to provide an independent evaluation of the configuration items of a software product confirming that all components in the as-built version map correspond to their requirements. Specifically, this audit is performed to verify that the software and its documentation are consistent internally.

There are two kinds of audits of the setup:

Functional audit-The purpose of the functional audit is to provide an autonomous assessment of a software product, verifying that the real functionality and efficiency of its configuration items is compatible with the appropriate specifications.

Physical auditing-The objective of the physical audit is to provide an independent evaluation of the configuration items of a software product to confirm that all components in the as-built version map correspond to their specifications. Specifically, this audit is conducted to confirm that the software and its documentation are internally compatible.

It is conducted by the software quality assurance team or the configuration management.
