Although, all the parameters of the computer and router are given. That is, Power in router and laptop is: 0.1 W Frequency of operation: 2.45 GHz Antenna gain in the router and laptop: 3 dB Minimum received power signal: 3.16 ⇥108 W

Assume lossless propagation, a simple step by step method to measure the maximum range of the router is:

Set up the router and the computer.

Walk slowly away, with the computer from the route

Note the distance, in metres of the weakest signal strength of the router, detected by the computer.

    Meseasure this distance

Repeat this procedure for 4 to 5 times. Each time, measure the distance in metres of the weakest signal strength.

Calculate the average of the measured distances.

The average distance gives the estimate of maximum range (in meters) of the network.
