    The correct answer would be C. Throughout the novel Timothy tries to teach Phillip to independent. He tries to impart to him all the skills he would need to survive alone, without him in case something happens to him. Here Phillip is shown to take matters into his own hands and that Timothy was successful in teaching him to survive.
