This is correct because the comma used (after the word "study") separates the independent clause ("Teddy promptly failed his algebra exam") and the subordinate clause ("As a result of his failure to study") in the right way.

The other options contain grammatical errors and they don't even sound right ...

Option A has an unnecessary comma after the word "result."

Option C uses the semicolon incorrectly.

Option D, similarly to Option A has an unnecessary comma after the word "result" and is missing a necessary comma after the word "study."
