Why did george rappleyea want to bring a trial to Dayton

    He was from New York City but in 1922 he took a position as an executive at the Cumberland Coal and Iron Company in Dayton. He was still living there when in 1925 Tennessee passed a law that stated it was illegal to teach evolution in Tennessee schools. He wanted to test the law in court ... and he knew the trial would be a national spectacle and would be a much needed economic boom for Dayton.
