I have a few questions about the book, 'A Separate Peace.'

1. Why does Gene train for the 1944 Olympics?

A. Gene has always dreamed of competing in the Olympics.

B. Gene will compete for Finny since Finny cannot because of his leg.

C. Gene is competing with Finny to get on the Olympic team.

D. Gene figures being in the Olympics will keep him from going to war.

2. Gene wants to visit the tree by the river and the "unusually hard" marble stairs.

    I've read it not so long time ago, so I remember it well enough. I'm 100% sure that my answers are correct. Check it out:

    1. If my memory serves me well, Gene trains for the 1944 Olympics because of this: B. Gene will compete for Finny since Finny cannot because of his leg.

    2. I'm definitely sure that the sentence given above is a perfect example of the C. foreshadowing.
