The excerpt from Black Boy that best demonstrates the idea that Wright’s family feels frustrated and trapped in their financial situation is C. At night there were long, halting discussions about our going to live with Granny, but nothing came of it. Perhaps there was not enough money for railroad fare.

You can see clearly here that they wanted to send to boy to his grandma so that both them and he could live a little bit better, however, they couldn't manage to set aside even that little money to send him away.
