Romeo and Juliet: What is Romeo's emotional state at the beginning of the play? Why does he feel this way?

    Romeo's mood in the first scene of Act 1 is extremely depressed and sorrowful due to Rosaline's rejection. In fact, we can say that he is in a state of emotional agony. Part of his agony is due to his youthful hormones.
