In John Steinbeck's "The Turtle," what happens to the red ant that slips inside the turtle's shell?

    The turtle withdrew its head and legs into its shell. As it did that, the red ant that crawled inside its shell was crushed. After doing that, the turtle put out its head and legs and continued its journey to the road.
