Why are Tom and Lily riding around on their scooters at the beginning of the story?

In the story "searching for Summer", Tom and Lily are riding around on their scooters as a way of finding sunlight on their honeymoon maybe trying to find a familiar childhood style of life. It seems that they are searching for something which they do not have.
