Why did the Japanese choose Pearl Harbor to attack?

A. It is located off the coast of New York City, the financial hub of the U. S.

B. It is part of the Hawaiian Islands, where many U. S. Naval ships were moored.

C. It is off the coast of Japan and the Japanese feared an attack by the U. S.

D. It is only 90 miles off the coast of Florida and the Japanese Navy wanted to establish a base there.

    Japan chose Pearl Harbor for many reasons. First off, Pearl Harbor was located right in the middle of the Pacific Ocean. It was "in the way" so to speak of the Japan expansion policy. Second, Pearl Harbor was where America's Pacific Fleet was located. If Japan was to wage war with America, it needed to completely wipe out all of America's power in the Pacific with one surprise.

    The answer is B. The Japanese wanted an extremely powerful navy force, but they knew America had a really big navy force as well. Destructing it would increase their chances of taking over the Pacific Ocean, as they thought.
