When I walked to the plate with the bases loaded, I knew the entire team was counting on me to come through. I took the first pitch for a called strike, then fouled off the next five pitches. With the count 0-2, I took a couple pitches well out of the strike zone, evening the count. The 2-2 pitch was a breaking ball, and I crushed it hard into the gap in left-center field, scoring two runs and winning the game for us!

If the writer wished to add a sentence between the first and second sentence of the passage in order to clarify the sequence and build tension, which of these choices would be most appropriate?

A) I knew the pitcher, but not very well.

B) This was my favorite game of all time.

C) My father later told me how proud he felt of me at this moment.

D) I could hear the fans roaring, and I knew everyone in the dugout sat with their rally caps in place and their fingers crossed.
