    It dehumanizes them.

    The whole theme of "grass" is that in time all sacrifices of war will be forgotten because the grass will grow over sites of battle and will not be recognizable anymore. Referring to the dead as just "bodies" takes away their humanity as time takes away the memory of those great losses by burying them under grass.
