The main difference is the composition and the a huge similarity is they were both formed early 4.5 billion years ago in the solar system

Their both celestial bodies orbiting the sun, both "leftovers" made from materials from the formation of our solar system and unuasual orbits. Asteroids consists of metal and rocky material while comets are made of ice, dust, rocky materials, and organic compounds. when comets are near the sun they loose material but asteroids remain solid even near the sun.
