    The Masque of the Red Dead is a short story written by American author Edgar Allan Poe. Irony is a literary device used to express an incongruity between the expectations and the real situation. It can also show differences among the words and their real meaning.

    Some examples are the name of the Prince, Prospero. Even though it means rich, confortable. However, bat things happen to him, such as death.

    Another thing is how wealthy people enjoyed the party inside the castle, but they did not know that the Red Death was about to end with their lives.

    There are many examples of irony in the story 'Masque of the Red Death' and the most important irony is explained below;

    ''Masque of the Red Death" is an interesting story of 'Prince Prospero' who tries to escape from the deadly plague 'Red Death' by locking the gates of the castle along with thousands of his friends. The first irony is in the name of the Prince. Prospero means being prosperous and successful, but Prince is the one who dies first in the castle. Also, he is one who follows the masked figure to stab him with the knife but is struck by the plague itself and he dies. The prince and his friends were enjoying inside the locked castle thinking they have escaped from death, but they couldn't be saved from their fate.
