Use context to determine the meaning of the word edict as used in Antigone's first long speech.

Antigone disobeys Creon's command by trying to give her brother a decent burial. She, however, stood up for gods together with her family. She also tries to explain to Ismene that she has to hide Polyneices or the guilty of not obeying the law will always follow her.

She later explains to Creon the reasons why she had to disobey him by saying it was not sued who published her that edict, but there are laws among men whose justice dwells on the gods only.
