The Absolutely True Diary of a Part-Time Indian is a book written by Sherman Alexie. The story is told from the perspective of a 14-year-old boy, known as "Junior."

In the book, alcohol directly affects Junior's life. For instance, his father and his friend Eugene get drunk and get into a fight, which results in Eugene's death. Junior realizes that if it had not been for the alcohol, Eugene would still be alive. In addition, Junior's grandmother is killed when hit by a drunk driver. Again, alcohol plays a crucial role in this accident. Finally, it is also Junior's sister Mary that dies in a fire upon getting drunk. These unfortunate and tragic events are all connected to alcohol, and have a detrimental effect on Junior's life.
