When Charlotte feels she is becoming a burden to her family she agrees to marry Mr Collins. She intends to have financial gain. Albeit the importance of love and understanding in marriage are highlighted in the novel, marriage for money is not considered unjust. Charlotte's decision to marry for money affects Elizabeth. Jane Austen means to send a message that women of her time should marry for love as well as for money. Her decision to marry for money in Victorian society makes her an important character.
