What does this poem mean

Alas, what wonder! man's superior part

Unchecked may rise, and climb from art to art;

But when his own great work is but begun,

What reason weaves, by passion is undone.

    Answer: Pope's Essay on Man reflects the Enlightenment emphasis on reason and logic, while Wordsworth's poem reflects the romantic emphasis on emotion and individual experience. Pope's poem describes how "passion" undermines reason, but Wordsworth's poem celebrates passion and emotion.
