William Paley was a great author, theologian and philosopher. He wrote enthusiastically and passionately; His latest and most famous book, Natural Theology, is no exception to the rule. The general theme of this book is well delineated in its subtitle, since the author aims to "demonstrate the evidences of the existence and attributes of the Godhead gathered from the evidence of nature", especially with regard to biological structures. It was in this work that he wrote the analogy of the clock, compared the world with a set clock and all the tools working in perfect condition, and questions how people can accept that the world works as a watch but does not believe in the existence of the watchmaker (that would be God).
