The antagonist is the opposing force that brings conflict and is instrumental in the development of the protagonist, or main character. so basically the villain in a story. Hope this is useful!

Answer: An antagonist is someone who is the opposing force that brings conflict and is instrumental in the development of the protagonist, or main character. Every good story should have an antagonist.
Explanation: Just like in My Father Sun Sun Johnson Book Merton Johnson is the antagonist.
