In a Christmas carol by Charles dickens, how does reflecting on a past affect scrooges character

Reflecting on the past effects scrooges character by showing him what he could have had, but instead he chose money letting him realize that though he may be rich and successful there's more to life then money he learns he needs to live his life tp the fullest which changes him from being a greedy old man to a generous old man.
