    Explanation:

The Great Gatsby is a novel penned by F. Scott Fitzgerald in 1925. The novel is about Jay Gatsby who symbolizes the American dream of being a self-made man.

Nick Carraway was the narrator of the novel who after being graduated in 1915 he went to fight in the Great War or World War 1. After coming from the Great War, he decided to go to the East Coast to learn the bond business. He decided to go to New York City (east) to pursue a new lifestyle and a new job or business. Nick was invited to dinner by Daisy and Tom because he was the cousin of Daisy, and was single. And to introduce him to Jordan Baker who was a beautiful young lady and single. Tom and Nick were college mates also and Tom's intention for invitation was to brag before Nick. While Tom, Nick, Jordan, and Daisy were having dinner, Tom receives a phone call from an unknown woman. When Tom went to take the phone call Daisy followed him. Later, Jordan told Nick that Tom was having an affair with a woman and he received her call during dinner. Daisy, at first, ignored it but was annoyed by it. At the end of chapter one, when Nick was sitting behind his house, he spotted Gatsby. But Nick did not call Gatsby as he stated that he was content being alone.
