How has the reading the Declaration of Independence affected your ideas of freedom?

The Declaration of Independence is a culturally important document for its establishment of political / legal rights AS WELL AS personal rights and freedoms guaranteed to all American peoples regardless of their characteristics. The idea that a level of individual freedom comes before governmental oversight has since been used in the creation of other national constitutions and human rights doctrines.
