    Explanation:

In the play The Crucible by Arthur Miller, it is possible to appreciate in act I how Abigail answers to Reverend Parris, her uncle, that the girls were just dancing in the forest when he asked about what happened there. He mentions that he saw someone was running naked, nevertheless Abigail replies that there was "nothing' more. I swear it, uncle", "No one was naked!" she said. On the other hand, Hale is more direct than Parris, he says in the streets they are talking about witchcraft in the forest. Hale explains what he saw last night, in detail he mentions how it was possible to observe they were preparing some kind of soup with something moving inside, so Abby in order to respond to these accusations explains "That jumped in, we never put it in!". However, as she started explaining the situation, she also began mentioning about the spirits and conjuring which reveals how they tried to defend themselves disguising the real situation, reason why implicitly it would be possible to say that they were afraid of the situation in general.
