    Answer and explanation:

In the short story "The Bat-Poet", the main character is the little brown bat. At first, he seems to be different from not only his bat friends, but also from all the other animals around the house in whose porch he sleeps. The little brown bat is skilled at observing other animals and then composing poems about them, about their nature and behavior. He begins developing that skill when the other bats go to sleep in the barn. He chooses to stay at the porch, alone, which makes his sleep uncomfortable. He ends up waking up during the day and seeing and hearing things he had never seen or heard before, during the night.

His poetic skills are not appreciated at first. The bats won't listen to the whole poem about the owl, the mockingbird will analyze the poem's structure ... while all the little brown bat wants is for someone to listen and enjoy. He finally finds a chipmunk who can do that. When the little brown bat decides to make a poem about bats and give the bats one more try at listening, his instincts overcome him. Even though he is different, more sensitive and observant, more open-minded about the world and its beauties, he is still a bat. As winter comes, he is no longer alone, but asleep in the barn with the others.
