Her specific actions are: Shrugging the beadle's hand on her shoulder, pausing at the prison door, looking at the town people, resisting the urge to cover the scarlet letter with the baby she is carrying and walking serenely to the scaffold. The memories are: An ancestral home, parents, her marriage and the life in Euroean capitals. The positions are: Pearl is in Hester's arm, Mr. Dimmsdale is above Hester in a balcony and Roger Chillingworth is on the edge of the crowd. The plea is: to reveal the name of the father. The attitude is: no revenge and he feels the scale is balanced between them. The promise is : To keep her husband's identity a secret.
