In the book, 'To kill a Mockingbird', Finch Landing is the home of the Finch family. Simon Finch was the first person in the family line to arrive America and establish the Finch Landing. Located near a river, the Finch family had a plantation which was the family business. The plantation was cultivated by black slaves. The house was a tastefully built white house with different porches. The family's tradition which placed emphasis on supremacy is evident in how elaborate the house was built. The kitchen which was apart from the main rooms give credence to the fact that the family had slaves.

It was also tradition in the Finch family that the descendants stay back in the Landing and grow the plantation, so as to sustain the family's heritage. Atticus Finch was the first to break this tradition by leaving the Landing to study law and eventually train his brother in Medicine.
