    According to the style guide of the publication manual of the American Psychological Association also known as APA style, headings identify the content within sections of a paper. They are used to simplify navigation through a document.

    There are of 5 levels of heading in the APA style and level 1 is the main and highest level while all other levels are sub-levels of the previous levels.

    Level 1 format should be centered, bold, have a title case heading and the text should begin as a new paragraph.

    level 3 format on the other hand should flush left, use bold italics, have a title case heading and its text should begin a new paragraph as well.
