Segregation is the act of separating people from others based on usually color. Throughout the 50's and early 60's whites were separated from blacks and the blacks were treated unfairly. For example, the whites got to sit anywhere on the bus while blacks had to sit in the back of the bus. They could sit in the middle but if a white person wanted to sit in the middle of the bus, the blacks had to move.
