Choose stage directions that set and develop the scene.

Principal. Hello, Arianna. I just got off the phone with your father. He thinks there's been a mix-up with your test results.

Arianna. Yes, Ma'am. I've been learning Spanish since I was four. I'm very good at it. I can't believe I only placed into Spanish 101.

Principal. [Nodding.] Yes, this happens quite frequently. Often, people think that just because they can speak a language well, they will definitely be able to place in a higher-level class.

She puts the receiver down as the door to her office opens. Arianna opens the door to the principal's office and looks at the principal as if asking for permission. The principal will nod and Arianna pulls one of the chair to sit in front of the principal.
