Are quotation marks needed around the title of a book?

    If you are referring to the title itself, quotation marks are not necessary. But if you are mentioning the title of a book within a paper you need to use quotation marks.

    Generally you should italicize the titles of long pieces of work like books or movies. Quotation marks are more for the titles of shorter works such as chapters of a book or t. v. shows.
