Why do persuasive writing techniques influence perspectives?

Why do we have persuasive writing techniques? What is the purpose of writing persuasively? We write persuasively to convince people that what we are trying to say is true, and needs attention or focus. It doesn't necessarily have to be right, but it does need to be able to convince people, hence influencing perspectives.
