Lincoln's focus is on the aftermath of the battle in Gettysburg. According to him, several brave men gave their life for a grand purpose. It is now everyone's duty to honor their sacrifice by not allowing it to have been a vain one. The fallen soldiers left behind some unfinished work, even though they promoted advances. It is up to the living to keep what they fought for - freedom.
