Evaporate means to turn liquid into vapor. As in, to dry up.
Example: when it rains, there could be puddles of water left on the ground. When the sun comes out, the water will evaporate in thin air, leaving the least amount of water left until there's no more

The process of water molecules escaping the surface of the Earth and entering the atmosphere is known as evaporation. Evaporation takes place as molecules of water escape from a collective body of water.
