Manor Farm is modeled after Russia. Old Major, Snowball, and Napoleon are symbolic of dominant Russian figures. Mr. Jones is likened to Tsar Nicholas, the last Russian emperor. The Russian people suffered in poverty and hunger, much like the animals under Jones who were hungry and wanting. Old Major is likened to V I Lenin who led the Bolshevik Party. Old Major gives the outline of Animalism, where all animals are equal and should revolt against those oppressing them, Lenin was inspired by Karl Marx theory of Communism which urged workers around the world to unite against their oppressors.
