Why was Henry David Thoreau put in jail, prompting him to write the essay "Civil Disobedience"?

    A tax collector asked him to pay six years of tax. well, Thoreau refused due to his opposition to the Mexican-American War n' slavery, so he spent a night in jail because of his refusal.
