The purpose of a monologue is D. To reveal a speaker's thoughts to the audience or other characters.

Monologue takes place when a character introduces a speech, in order to clearly state his or her ideas or thoughts in a loud voice, but also to approach another character or the spectators. Monologues are usually found in movies, theatrical plays, etc. and also in literary works such as poetry.
