In Lord of the Flies, everyone wants to be rescued, but why does no one work harder at getting rescued?

    They are kids and they act like kids.

    Explanation:

    Immediate gratification has a higher priority than working toward a goal. Play is more fun than work. The basic reason, though, is that they are fearful of what they might find just around the curve.
