    Mr. Melvin Tolson is a a professor at Wiley college, He organized a team of debaters and trained them, in the 1930s, The wiley college debate team became well known as they won many debate competitions. Mr Tolson lead his African-American debate team to victory. sexism and racism is well described in the movie made from the story "The great debaters" by Robert Eisele with Denzel Wahington as Melvin Tolson which is based on the true story of Wiley college debate team.

    The film showed great division between the blacks and whites within the 1930s Texas. James Farmer is one of the debaters that Mr. Tolsen trained who was only fourteen at that time. The Wiley college debate team inspired by Melvin Tolson went ahead to challenge Harvard in the national championship. The film shows the Wiley debate team beating Harvard college in the 1930s. the debate team is made up of Henry lowe, Samantha Booke and James Farmer Jr. with Mr. Tolson as their trainer.
