It appears derogatory when he uses the words "little mental", which connotes "small mind", with little perception; sense of superiority is being shown in the narrator. Though, when the narrator split out the word "sky", he/she implies it to be something positive in nature. Evidently, "sky" connotes something beautiful and enormous itself, but with additional word like adjective "little" even shows more superiority.
