Bud was afraid that monsters will come out of the "two little doors" while he sleeps.

    Explanation:

The story of Bud, Not Buddy by Christopher Paul Curtis tells the story of a young African American boy named Bud Caldwell and his life shifting through foster homes. He also has a mission in his life, which is to find his father who had abandoned them.

Chapter 15 of the story is about the time he first stepped into the Grand Calloway Station, the house where he was to stay. The owner Mr. Herman E. Calloway was or seemed to be a hard man, who disliked Bud for some reason. He even whispered to him that very night they arrived "You've got the rest of them fooled, but not me. There's something about you that I don't like. I'm going to find out what your game is and you, believe me, scamp, you're going back where you belong". The room where he was to sleep has two little doors which scared him. He thinks that the doors housed monsters, "a young Frankenstein or wolfman" that will hurt him while he's sleeping.
